FUEL PUMP
DESCRIPTION
The electric fuel pump may be found within the fuel pump module in most vehicles. The pump is powered by an electric motor with a permanent magnet and 12 volts. The electronic fuel pump is not a component that can be removed and serviced independently. Here is a clear picture of the fuel pump module.
OPERATION
The fuel pump relay supplies voltage to enable the electric pump to function properly.
The fuel is pulled in via a filter located at the module’s bottom, then pumped through an electric motor gearset towards the pump outlet.
Checking Valve Operation: The bottom component of the fuel pump module comprises a one-way check valve. This valve does not allow any flowing back of fuel into the tank and maintains fuel delivery line pressure (which keeps the engine warm) when the pump is not working. If the pump is not working, it is also utilized to ensure that the fuel supply line is always sufficiently stocked with gasoline. It is possible that after the car has been allowed to cool down, the fuel pressure will decrease to 0 psi (cold fluid shrinks), but there will still be liquid gasoline in the fuel supply route between the check valve & the fuel injectors. Therefore, it is normal for the fuel pressure to decrease to 0 psi once the engine is turned off and the car starts cooling down.
The electronic fuel pump is not a component that can be removed and serviced independently.
FUEL PUMP MODULE
DESCRIPTION
The fuel pump module unit is situated at its designated location on the very top of the fuel tank. The three components can be found in the whole assembly:
· A combined gasoline filter/fuel pressure regulator
• A fuel pick-up or intake filter that is distinct from the rest of the system
• An electrical fuel pump
• A lock ring that can be used to keep the pump module attached to the tank
· A flexible gasket connecting the tank flange and the module
• A fuel gauge transmitting unit that senses the fuel level
• Fuel line connector
There is a separate transmitting unit for the fuel gauge that may be repaired if necessary. The fuel pump module must be changed out if any of the following components require maintenance:
